Words of Encouragement for the Reluctant Flyer

There are women who share a love of aviation with the men in their lives. There are women whose passion for flight prompts them to become pilots. There are even women who build their own airplanes. Then there are the rest of us—women who never imagined they would one day be traveling in a single-engine aircraft that was built in their garage; women who are a wee bit apprehensive about climbing in and taking off into the blue.  Continue reading ...

Twelve Days, Eleven Nights '09

Vacations are as varied as the activities they revolve around. Flying, driving, boating, water sports, socializing, barbeques, restaurants, amusement parks, bunking with friends, camping, hoteling, historic landmarks, scenic tours, dancing, parties, shopping, and live entertainment are standard leisure time faves. Whether you prefer to marvel at the natural beauty of God's creation or a popular tourist attraction, time constraints and logistics usually dictate that choices be made. Will you head for the coast, the mountains, the desert, or the bedazzling glitz of a destination like Vegas? While the average American holiday doesn't typically include all of the activities listed above, our most recent RV adventure was anything but average!   Continue reading  ...

Year in Review '08

What a year it was for my airplane, my wife, and me! A whole lot of flying, traveling, and sleeping away from home. The year ending 12/31/08 included over 225 nights at hotels in 15 different states:   CA, CO, AZ, NM, MO, KY, FL, OH, IN, OK, PA, TX, IA, GA,TN. Continue reading ... (scroll down to 339A post)

Turks & Caicos '07

Back in January of 2002, when my husband began transforming our garage into a plane-building workshop, I never dreamt that we would one day fly our little plane more than 5,100 miles to Turks & Caicos in the British West Indies and back!

Movie in the Mojave, '10

Most flying enthusiasts have spent their fair share of time and money in pursuit of the infamous $100-hamburger. Well slide over Mr. All-Beef Patty and make room for the $600 movie! Continue reading ...

Yellowstone National Park '09

On the heels of our Twelve Days, Eleven Nights Adventure (see EXcellent RV Adventures above) was a Weekend Excursion to Yellowstone National Park. We didn’t have the time or the motivation to put together a proper trip report after the BIG one we had just finished for 12/11. But we did blog about it. Continue reading ... Page, Arizona '09

Given that the wife and I have been going stir crazy at home due to a lack of traveling in the RV, and the last two trips we had planned for this year have fallen through, we felt that a weekend excursion was in order. We were looking for a getaway that was within RV range and wouldn’t break the bank. Adding some “landed there” pins to the northwestern section of our Airport Landings map is among our goals for 2009, so we began laying the groundwork for a trip to Montana. When the weather began “heading south,” so did we—to Page, Arizona to visit Glen Canyon and Lake Powell. Continue reading . . .

St. Paddy's Poker Run '08

On March 9, 2008, following another overnighter at Hotel Casa de Rosales, we and N339A participated in our first Poker Run. This annual event, now in its 18th year, was sponsored by the Antelope Valley 99s. Thanks to them for putting on such a great event; special thanks to our friend Mercedes. Continue reading . . .

Thanksgiving at Rosamond '07

The second installment of the Scott & Deb’s EXcellent RV Adventure series means a title change is in order: Adventure—singular—has become Adventures—plural! Although this trip was on a smaller scale than Turks & Caicos at 2,829 miles round trip (day-tripping included), it certainly qualifies as an RV adventure. We had a great time reconnecting with RVing pals and (as Paul Rosales likes to say) “expanding our circle of friends.” Continue Reading . . .
